To: Board of Directors, Mendocino Coast District Hospital
Date: January 22, 2006
In the year 2005, alarm bells emanating from Mendocino Coast District Hospital (MCDH) roused the community served by the hospital. Hospital financial losses were exceeding $1,000,000 and employee morale was plummeting. Subsequently, attendance at hospital board meetings reached historical highs.
Late in the year we four local citizens, formed the Hospital Resource Council. Our goal is to help solve the current financial crisis and make our hospital loved by the community, employees, and medical staff.
We hired, at our own expense, a Utah hospital consulting group called Rural Health Management Corporation. A site visit to MCDH was made by Rural Health in December 2005 and a report was recently produced.
The Hospital Resource Council has furnished the Board of Directors and the hospital administration with copies of this report. We are placing printed copies at the Fort Bragg library and the Mendocino Library. The report is posted on the HRC web site (www.savethehospital.org). We will also provide local citizens with electronic copies upon request.

We will present our findings at this Thursday’s Meeting of the Mendocino Coast Hospital Board of Directors scheduled for January 26, 2006 at 6:00 PM at the hospital’s Redwood room in the new “Patient Care Building.” We encourage and invite our fellow citizens to attend and participate.
